Adobe (PDF) Attachments

Many of the documents the AFC send out to its clubs, referees and officers are Adobe PDF (Portable Document Format) files. This format is becoming more and more widely used, and is the normal format used by the F.A. as well for sending out documents.

In the past we have sent out documents requiring various bits of software:- Excel, Word, PageMaker, Publisher. All are ideal if you have them on your computer, and if your Firewall doesn't strip them out (increasingly many do) but if you don't you're up a gum tree.

Now, we're converting everything to Adobe PDF - the advantages are numerous - it requires only one piece of software (which is FREE - if you haven't got Adobe Reader go to The Adobe Website (or click on the icon

One problem we've come across is that some systems (usually AOL and Hotmail) can "auto-zip" Adobe attachments (so you receive a .ZIP file - which is smaller, but as they don't tell you they've done it, it's a superb way of potentially confusing you). The newer versions of Adobe Reader cope with this (and automatically "un-zip" the attachment) but older ones don't. So if you get a .ZIP file which you click on and nothing happens, then try downloading the newer version of Reader.
