AFC
Annual General Meeting (June 2004) -
Clubs are reminded that the 2004-05 Annual General Meeting will be held on
Friday 25th June 2004, at the Chadwick
Street Recreation Centre, 1 Chadwick
Street, Westminster, SW1, commencing at 6.30pm. Nearest tube: St James Park. All
clubs must be represented. Season
Fines/Clean Sheets (June 2004) -
Congratulations are due to the following clubs who have not been fined by the
league for any sort of misdemeanour throughout the 2003-04 season:- Birkbeck
College, City of London, Hale End Athletic, Old Bromleians, Old Ignatian, Old
Kingsburians, Old Rutlishians, Old St Marys, Old Thorntonians, Old Whitgiftians,
Phoenix Old Boys. On
the flip-side, the worst offenders were:- Ravenscroft
Old Boys £375, Old Suttonians £370, Egbertian £300, Inland Revenue £260 and
Old Tenisonians £250. The
total breakdown of fines levied throughout the league were as follows:- Press
result not phoned in £720, non-Press result not phoned in £1230, Non/Late
Submission of the CRS £2280, Failure to advise Divisional Match Secretaries of
postponed games £500, Failure to fulfil fixtures £125, Late Cancellation of
games £30, Late Kickoffs £265, No hospitality offered £80, No/late
confirmation of fixtures to referees £210, Failure to reply to correspondence
from league officers £1330, Others £600. Trophies due for Return (May 2004) - Clubs are reminded that all trophies are due for return to Len Fowler Trophies by Monday 31st May at the latest. The address is 55 Lambs Conduit Street, Holborn, London, WC1N 3NB. Clubs will be fined £5.00 per day per trophy for every day that trophies are late arriving at Fowlers. Yorkshire Old Boys 1 AFC 1 (Apr 2004) - On Saturday 17th April the AFC Representative Team drew 1-1 with Yorkshire Old Boys at Adel Old Boys in Leeds. Particular congratulations to John O'Brien on his 100th Representative Appearance. Click here for a full report. Regionalisation Proposal for Senior 3 and Senior 4 confirmed (Apr 2004) - Following the latest letter (March) sent out to clubs, proposing the regionalisation of the lowest two Senior Divisions for the 2004-05 season and strong support from clubs the Constitution Committee have now agreed to propose the regionalisation of Senior 3 and 4 for 2004-05. Click here for more details. Old Meadonians win AFA Senior Cup (Apr 2004) - On Saturday 3rd April Old Meadonians beat Nottsborough 2-0 to win the AFA Senior Cup at Civil Service F.C. It's Old Meadonians second AFA Senior Cup win in the last three years, and makes it four years out of five that the AFA's premier competition has been won by an AFC club. FA Goal Post Safety Campaign (Mar 2004) - Football should be fun, safe and enjoyable, whether you play in a park, at school or for a local club. The FA has produced Guidance notes and Technical notes and is relaunching this important campaign that sets the standards in Goal Post Safety. Background: Tragically, nine children in England have been killed as a result of falling goalposts since 1991. In the past six months, two more children have been killed in accidents involving goalposts, one in Ireland and one in Malta. During the 2001/02 season, The Football Association carried out a programme of on site inspection and testing of goalpost sets at a number of sites across the country. Some of the findings are as follows: a. Of all goals tested, 41% of mini-soccer goals, 50% of 5-a-side goals and 22% of junior goals failed stability tests. These types of goals are almost all of a portable type and reliant upon secure means of ‘holding down’, either using anchors or weights. b. Anchor weights are rarely used properly or to the recommended loading. c. Ground conditions can affect the stability of goals therefore it is important to liase with manufacturers on the appropriate ground fixings in relation to weather conditions d. Users at every second site were unaware of the safety campaign involving goalposts. Through extending this campaign to the third year - with 250,000 leaflets going out to Clubs, Schools, youth groups, referees, coaches and leisure facilities across the country from the beginning of November 2002 – The FA is committed to raising this awareness and aims to create a safer environment for all football. e. Only 51% of users were unaware of how goalposts should be assembled correctly f. Only 50% of goals inspected and tested had any means of identification and many are pre - PAS or BS/CEN standards Key Areas of FA Concern: a. The stability of goalposts b. Wooden Goals c. 5-a-side or goals on artificial pitches – not properly weighted d. Mini soccer goals – not erected properly e. Metal cup hooks – dangers of cuts, gouging f. Modifying of existing goals and DIY changes or welding of equipment Key Message: When buying goalposts for your club/school/Local Authority, ask manufacturers if the goals comply with The FA Technical Parameters & Guidance Notes. beat London Legal League, lose to Arthurian League (Mar 2004) -
On Wednesday 31st March the AFC lost 3-0 to the Arthurian League, click

March the AFC beat the London Legal League, 3-0.

Ron
Zackerwich (Feb 2004) - It's with
regret I have to report that Ron Zackerwich, a Vice President of the AFC passed
away at the weekend.
Ron
was a long serving officer of both Old Parmiterians and of the Southern Olympian
League, for whom the phrase "service before self" was particularly
appropriate. His
funeral will be held at 1pm on Wednesday 3rd March, at St
Columbus Church, Queenhill Road, off
Upper Selsdon Road, Selsdon, Surrey, CR2 8DW. For

and Relegation (Jan 2004) -
The Constitution Committee have published the details for Promotion and
Relegation from the Senior and Intermediate Divisions at the end of the season. Click

Old
Southallians and St Marys College resign from AFC (Jan 2004) -
It is with regret that the league has accepted the resignations of Old
Southallians and St Marys College from the AFC. Both clubs had been struggling
to field sides and their records will be expunged.

the league currently has a vacancy for the Chairman of the Amenities Committee.
The amenities committee is responsible for the monitoring of ground facilities,
hospitality, club administration and so forth. If you are interested please

Representatives (Sep 2003)
- Are you happy with the way the AFC is
being run? Would you like to have more say in how things are done within the
AFC? The AFC Rules provide that together with the League Officers (Chairman, Hon
Secretary, Treasurer, the Chairman of each sub-Committee etc) in addition up to
12 Club Representatives sit on the Executive Committee of the League.
The
purpose of having Club Representatives is so that there is not an imbalance
between the requirements of the League Officers in running the League and the
needs of the member Clubs of the League. The Club Representatives look after the
general interests of the Clubs (but not the specific interests of their own or
any other Club) and help keep a balanced approach throughout all the Leagues
dealings. You are generally asked to attend the meetings and offer opinions and
comments from the perspective of our Clubs.
To
be a Club Representative of the League Executive Committee, you must be an
Officer of a Member Club. You must be prepared to attend the Executive Committee
meetings held once a month during the season (at the Civil Service Recreation
Centre, Chadwick Street, London SW1) and possibly also be prepared to sit on a
sub-committee. In return, you have the chance to represent the general interests
of the Member Clubs at those Committees to make sure that the League is run in
the way that the Clubs want.
We
already have some excellent Club Representatives and they do an excellent job in
representing club interests at the Executive Committee. Following the AGM we
still have some vacancies for Club Representatives on the Executive Committee.
