2005/2006 League Constitution

Following a meeting of the AFC Constitution Committee, on 16th May 2005, a draft constitution was proposed to clubs, for approval at this year’s AGM.

Next season will continue with the present structure of 5 senior divisions and 3 regions.

There is one new club next season, William Fitt. However Inland Revenue have resigned from the League, while Sinjuns and Old Grammarians have amalgamated. They will now be called Sinjuns Grammarians.

During our deliberations it was noted that several Clubs are running closed squad systems which is adversely effecting promotion and relegation. We have tried to avoid rewarding the more blatant examples.

The South continues to flourish. There are 6 new teams entering next season, bringing the number of teams to 124. To accommodate them we have created an extra division, 11 South. This has also allowed us to attain a League goal of having more 10 team Divisions, (where possible, we aim for 10 team divisions in the regions, 11 team divisions are only included where numbers require them). As a consequence, some teams may unfortunately find themselves playing in a lower division.

We do remind all clubs that the League tends to lose teams during the close season so the Constitution is subject to adjustment.

The disparity in size between the West and both the North and the South continues to cause concern. During the close season and early next season we will be looking at ways of redressing the balance. All Clubs will be consulted during this process. We would welcome any ideas from Clubs.

Following consultation with clubs, the final constitution has now been issued and was agreed at the 2005 AGM, though it is likely to be adjusted during the summer.
