AFC Results via SMS Text Message

From Saturday 10th November, we're launching an experimental format for reporting results. For the Senior Divisions (only at the start), we want clubs to start submitting their results from their mobile phones via SMS Text Message, as soon as possible after games have been finished. These results will be available on the Internet immediately.

Getting Started

Initially we're going to trial this for just the five Senior Divisions, but assuming all works smoothly, we hope to extend it to all divisions. It only applies to League games.

How Does It Work?

Just after kickoff in your games Club Secretaries and Fixture Secretaries (or if they're the same person, the Emergency Contact) will receive on their mobile phones a text message from the Football Association's Full Time system, asking you to report the scoreline of your game at its conclusion.

Please reply to this text message as soon as possible after the end of the game (home and away clubs). The format of the reply you need to send is explained in the text message you receive and is very straightforward:-

RESULT H-A code

where H is the home score, A is the away score (make sure they're separated by a single hyphen) and code is a team code which is included within the text message you receive (if no code is shown, there's no need to put in a code).

This will ensure not only that the league tables on the website are updated immediately, but also that results and tables can be viewed using a WAP enabled phone immediately (at:- www.theFA.com/FULL-TIME/WAP).

Note that you must send the scoreline from the same mobile number as you receive the prompt. The system recognises your club from the mobile number.

Postponements

Can also be texted in, using P-P as the scoreline. Remember to phone League Match Secretaries, Results Secretaries and Referees' Secretaries as well.

Reporting Results to Trevor Syms

Please note that Senior Results still must to be reported to Trevor Syms (020 8360 3339) in the usual way (by 5.30pm Saturday), so he can collate them and pass them to the Press Outlets in the usual manner.

Latest Results

There are two ways of seeing the results appear as they come in:-

1. Via the Internet from your Computer - see http://full-time.thefa.com/Index.do?division=8368223

2. Via the Internet from a WAP enabled mobile phone - see www.TheFA.com/FULL-TIME/WAP

Why Are We Doing It?

We've had a lot of positive feedback about results appearing on the website on a Sunday this season, rather than Monday morning, and this enables us to get them there even quicker. In addition, it allows people to access them from their mobile phones (which many like, particularly as the season progresses towards the crunch time) soon after games. It'll also help remove one of the possibilities of human error, you'll actually get a prompt reminding you to report your results. Even less excuse for forgetting them!

Feedback

Feedback to Danny McConnell from clubs and club officers is welcome. Please continue to also report results in the "usual manner" for the time being, but if we can make this work, we believe we'll not only provide a better service for clubs and players, but in the long term make the overall administrative burden easier for everyone.
